Netstor Expands Their Family of TurboBox® – Combining Raid Storage & External PCIe Slot Expansion for Laptop Computer
2010-01-13

Netstor TurboBox NA210A-LDTaipei, Taiwan, Jan. 13, 2010 – Netstor introduces the TurboBox® NA210A-LD, the newest addition to their TurboBox® NA210A family. The new TurboBox® NA210A-LD is an external PCI-Express expansion enclosure combining with a multi-drive backplane module supporting up to four(4) 2.5” SATA/SAS or high speed SSD(Solid State Drive), making it the perfect I/O as well as storage capacity expansion for laptop computers and PC workstations.

Using professional PCIe editing card and disk array for Laptop users now is possible. The TurboBox® NA210A-LD is particularly designed for video editors who work with Laptop computer for digital content creation in the studio or on the location. With the expansion PCI-Express slot, the mobile size of NA210A-LD can be installed with any standard PCIe editing card and the Express Card connection equals PCI-e x1, which is 2.5 Gbps, three times faster then Firewire B.(TurboBox populated with Balckmagic’s DeckLink Studio or Intensity Pro and four 2.5 SATA drives is able to manipulate 10 bit SD/HD contents.)

"Originally editing on the shooting site with a laptop computer requires a box with I/O function and a RAID subsystem via Firewire connection." said Brian Yu, sales manager from Netstor. “The I/O box is only manufactured by one specific A/V Editing system vendor. And the box is extremely expensive compared to the standard PCIe A/V Editing cards. Moreover, the performance is limited to 80MB/s due to the specification of Firewire B.”

"The previous version of TurboBox had made it possible for users to use an Editing PCI-Express card like BalckMagic, Grass Valley(Canopus) and Matrox to edit the captured digital content on-site. However it still requires a RAID subsystem for the storage of the footage. We found that it decreases the mobility and this is critical for on-site editing. Therefore we commenced to develop the RAID version of TurboBox.” answered Brian when asked why the RAID version of TurboBox is needed.

"One of the pilot run had gone to CTS, which is a 35 year old Taiwanese TV channel.” Brian continues. “They are using NA210A-LD with the editing card from Canopus - Grass Valley for on-site quick editing at the news spot. And now this solution has become one of their indispensable equipment for their news division.”
