Automatic eGPU Configuration Guide (For macOS High Sierra Thunderbolt Mac computers with Nvidia GPU card)

* For macOS High Sierra Thunderbolt Mac computers with Nvidia GPU card
* The backup of all your data is recommended before eGPU configuration.
          

Note before proceeding to the eGPU setting:
(A) The HL23T-PRO / NA211TB3 with GPU card installed should NOT be connected to Mac at the beginning.
(B) macOS’s SIP (System Integrity Protection) must be disabled first.
(C) The Mac computer needs to be connected to Internet via Ethernet port or Wi-Fi because program will download GPU card driver automatically during the configuration.

Steps:

  1. Make sure the operating system of the Mac computer that is to be used with the eGPU is macOS High Sierra 10.13.x ~ 10.13.6 (build ver. 17G65).
  2. Open Terminal. Execute the following command:
    bash <(curl -s https://raw.githubusercontent.com/learex/macOS-eGPU/master/macOS-eGPU.sh)
  3. At this time, the Mac computer will link to the Internet automatically. Within the Terminal pane, when the text appears to “preparing secure eGPU connection”, please connect the Thunderbolt eGPU to the Mac computer.
  4. Within the Terminal pane, when the text appears to “waiting 20 seconds for user to disconnect eGPU”, please disconnect the Thunderbolt eGPU with the Mac computer.
  5. After the eGPU enabling process is completed, shut down Mac computer, and then connect the Thunderbolt eGPU to Mac again. Power on Mac computer; as it boots into macOS operating system, the eGPU will work with computer.

CUDA Driver Installation:

  • If you will need to use CUDA computing with eGPU, visit: https://www.nvidia.com/object/mac-driver-archive.html, download and install the latest Mac CUDA driver. After CUDA driver installation, restart Mac, and then the CUDA driver and its computing will be enabled.
  • If you don't need to use CUDA computing, just restart Mac directly after the steps are completed, and then the eGPU will work properly with Mac.
